Information About The Digital SAT

The SAT is a standardized test created and organized by the College Board. It is the most widely used college admissions exam, serving as a tool for colleges and universities to measure a student’s academic ability and college-readiness. Some of the most competitive colleges in the US, such as Georgetown and MIT, require the SAT. Other schools, like the University of Chicago, encourage students to submit SAT scores as part of their applications.

As of 2024, the SAT transitioned to the Digital SAT. The Digital SAT is composed of only two sections: a combined Reading/Writing section and a Math section.

  • Each section of the digital SAT will include two modules. The first module will be the same for every student and will include questions of a wide range of difficulties. However, depending on a student’s score in the first module, the student will receive either an easy or hard version of the second module. This is important because harder questions contribute more towards the final score than easy questions. Thus, students who get the hard version of the second module will have a higher score potential than students who get the easy version.

  • For the Reading and Writing section, students will have 64 minutes to answer 54 multiple choice questions, broken into two 32-minute modules of 27 questions each. This means that students will have an average of 71 seconds on each question.

    Unlike in previous years, questions on this section will each refer to their own short passage, each between 25 and 150 words. This will remove the need for students to read long passages and complex texts and increase the ease with which students can refer to what they read.

  • For the Math section, students will have 70 minutes to answer 44 total questions, broken into two 35-minute modules of 22 questions each. This means that students will have an average of 98 seconds on each question. Approximately 75% of Math questions are multiple choice, with the remaining 25% being student-produced responses. Note that a calculator is allowed for both math sections.

  • The Test Prep Chicago SAT Exam Prep course prepares students for the combined Reading and Writing section and Math section on the digital SAT Exam.

  • Our courses are structured around 3 core learning principles: Teach, Practice, Apply; Building Blocks; and Practice Makes Perfect.Learn more about our philosophy.

  • Any 10th-12th grader who is planning on taking the digital SAT Exam as part of their college admissions process. We know the college admissions process can be extremely demanding, and our course will give students a competitive advantage for their SAT scores.

  • Your child will receive weekly packets that include worksheets for use in class. These handouts include easy-to-understand teaching notes as well as practice questions. Our materials are designed to facilitate active-learning by striking the right balance between instruction and student participation. Students will also have access to weekly online homework assignments (in our online testing platform) that will allow them to hone the skills learned in class. The online homework assignments will mimic the online format of the digital SAT.

  • Students will take an online diagnostic exam (during Session 1) to measure their strengths and weaknesses. An online final exam will be administered (during Session 8) to measure how students have improved during the course. Additionally, graded homework assignments will provide insight into your child's weekly comprehension and improvement.

  • You will receive weekly emails from your child's teacher detailing what topics were covered in each class. Additionally, parents/students can access practice test results and weekly homework results in our online testing platform. These results include detailed analysis of each section broken down into separate subtopics.

  • Your child will be taught by one of Test Prep Chicago's highly skilled instructors. All Test Prep Chicago instructors have completed our intensive interview and training process.

  • Our course consists of 8 three-hour sessions offered once a week.

  • Classes will be held weekdays after school and on weekends. Classes will be taught in your child's high school or, when necessary, at a nearby school or public classroom.

  • The tuition for our SAT courses is $895 (~$37/hour for in-class instruction). This tuition covers all in-class instruction, test prep material, and online testing material in our online testing platform.
